Description

An acrylic on canvas, hand-signed, original artwork by Simon Lee Robson.

Misremembering Shakespeare (2016) is evocative and mysterious; it sets up a playful ambiguity that invites the viewer to question the identity or transformation of the figure. The juxtaposition of the iconic playwright with the humble religious figure, perhaps even a Franciscan monk, suggests a backstory, a visual riddle, or even a misremembered history.

Obscura | 2025 is a brooding collection of original acrylic portraits that peer into the shadowed corners of identity, myth, and mischief.

These paintings channel an unsettling energy, faces half-lit or obscured, expressions flickering between menace and melancholy. Each figure feels like a fragment from a forgotten history or an uncanny dream, inviting the viewer to linger in ambiguity.

Some works are intentionally distressed, their surfaces worn like relics or relics of memory, suggesting age, trauma, or deliberate erasure. The collection as a whole resists easy interpretation, favouring mood over clarity, emotion over precision.

This collection invites you to stand before these enigmatic faces, and see what stares back.
