The second installment of The Black Rain Engravings presents an expanded selection of Simon Lee Robson’s rare and exquisitely crafted intaglio prints, unseen for more than twenty years. In The Black Rain Engravings: Part II, the series enters a new spiritual dimension, inspired by the profound philosophy of Buddhism and the artist’s visionary imagination.

Two decades ago, Robson retreated from the rhythm of London to the Far East, seeking creative renewal. In a hidden atelier in Japan, he immersed himself in the art of traditional intaglio. Surrounded by copper plates, finely honed tools, and the subtle scent of ink, he devoted himself to engraving visions that combined discipline, meditation, and imagination.

While the first installment drew on Christian iconography, this series channels the contemplative depth and serenity of Buddhist philosophy. Each plate carries careful lines imbued with intention, blending traditional technique with Robson’s dreamlike, fantastical interpretations. The result is a series that evokes serenity, reflection, and subtle transcendence, each print a meditation in form and spirit. Like their predecessors, these works were treasured within a select circle but remained unseen when Robson returned to England, the original copper plates lost or destroyed.

After decades in archival obscurity, Simon Lee Robson, in collaboration with Arte Delux, brings these prints to collectors for the first time. Each intaglio print is hand-signed by Robson and hand-pulled from the original plates in a limited edition. A small number of Artist’s Proofs and Hors de Commerce impressions offer collectors a rare opportunity to acquire exceptional examples of these exquisite works, ensuring their place in private collections for generations to come.

How do you package my artwork?

All artworks are carefully and securely packaged to ensure they arrive in pristine condition. Each piece is protected with reinforced cardboard corner guards and an additional layer of cardboard over the surface to minimize any risk of damage. Larger artworks receive extra protection with bubble wrap and are placed in a heavy-duty, rigid, corrugated cardboard box.

Every package reflects our commitment to both the safety of your artwork and our dedication to sustainable, responsible packaging. As far as we are able, we use recyclable, compostable, or recycled materials, and avoid plastics wherever we can. For artworks that require more protection, we use environmentally friendly plastics, such as recyclable bubble wrap.

How do you send my certificate of authenticity?

Every original and limited edition artwork includes a certificate of authenticity, which is included in the package with your artwork or occasionally shipped separately for some limited editions.

What happens after I place an order?

Once your purchase is complete, you will receive a confirmation email. One of our art consultants will also follow up with an email to confirm the order, discuss your preferred delivery arrangements, and answer any additional questions you may have.

Is the artwork hand-signed by the artist?

The majority of our original and limited edition artworks are hand-signed by the artist, either on the front or reverse of the work. If you’re unsure about a particular piece, feel free to contact us for confirmation.
