Simon Lee Robson

Originally from the quiet wilds of rural North Yorkshire, England, and now based in the leafy suburbs of North West London, Simon Lee Robson’s contemporary practice encompasses portraiture, figurative studies, landscapes, still life, and elements of surrealism..

Robson attended Leeds Art College during the 1990s. His work draws inspiration from painters such as Caravaggio and Salvador Dalí, alongside an appreciation of Japanese art and aesthetics developed through journeys and extended stays in Japan. These diverse influences inform a practice that moves between classical subject matter, contemporary interpretation, and a distinctive sense of atmosphere and composition.

A recurring characteristic of Robson’s original works is his use of reclaimed and repurposed materials. He frequently incorporates reclaimed timber and other found materials into his paintings and constructions, often deliberately preserving their character rather than concealing imperfections. Weathered surfaces, rustic finishes, exposed timber, and signs of age form an important part of the visual language of works such as Eikṓns Collected Works | 2025 and Masterpiece Studies | 2025, where materiality becomes an integral part of the artwork itself.

Through his collaboration with Arte Delux, Robson has opened his private archives to collectors for the first time, releasing works created over many years that were previously retained in his own collection. These include significant bodies of work such as The Black Rain Engravings | 2024 and Canvas Vault | 2024, making these previously unseen works available to a wider audience of collectors.

Alongside these archival releases, he has worked creatively with Arte Delux on a number of new collections and editions, including Neon Ancestors | 2025 and Medusa Reframed: Chromatic Fields | 2026. These collaborations provide an opportunity to extend and reinterpret ideas within his original practice, translating established imagery and concepts into new bodies of work while retaining their connection to the artist’s wider oeuvre.

Robson’s work is now held in private collections across the United Kingdom and internationally.
