Description
A giclée on canvas, hand-signed, limited edition artwork by Timothy Langton.
In the dim glow of Becontree Station, this piece captures the lingering mystery that hangs in the air. The quiet commuter station on the District Line transforms into an enigmatic scene when night falls. Rich in shadow and subdued light, the artwork evokes the spine-tingling experience of those who have witnessed the station's eerie presence. At its heart is a faceless ghostly figure, an unsettling blank slate that leaves viewers with an uneasy feeling. The apparition appears almost ethereal, blending seamlessly with the night's darkness, yet standing in stark contrast against the station's backdrop. This spectral vision is no mere figment of imagination, but a chilling reality for those who have encountered it.
This giclée on canvas is presented in a black float frame and is ready to hang.
The piece is also available as part of a set.
A large-format edition is also available.
The Story Behind the Artwork
1992: Becontree Station supervisor Tariq Rana recalls the chilling moment he first saw the apparition. It was a quiet night, the station empty save for the occasional rustle of a newspaper or the distant hum of a train. As he walked from his office onto the platform, he saw her, silent, still, and unnervingly present. A spectral figure of a woman in a white dress, her long blonde hair falling over her shoulders, but her face was eerily featureless. The sight of the faceless woman sent shivers down his spine, a moment frozen in time that still gives him goose pimples to this day.
His staff member, too, has felt the cold grip of fear upon encountering the ghostly figure. Their shared experience adds an unsettling layer of credibility to the tale, painting a vivid picture of a supernatural presence that haunts Becontree Station. The station's past echoes with tragedy, in 1958, ten people lost their lives on this section of the District Line in a train collision, just minutes after departing Becontree Station. Whether mere coincidence or something more, the spirits of those lost seem forever tied to the dark recesses of the London Underground, where history lingers in the shadows.
