Description

An acrylic on canvas, hand-signed, original artwork by Simon Lee Robson.

Tuna Fishing after Salvador Dalí, 1966-1967 (A Study) (2022) pays homage to Dalí’s original with remarkable sensitivity to its colour palette and expressive style. In this study, Robson captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow, staying true to Dalí’s bold contrasts and electric energy. His brushstrokes mirror the fluidity and movement found in the original, while his careful attention to colour replicates the luminous, almost dreamlike quality of Dalí’s seascape. Though a study, Robson’s piece stands as a compelling interpretation, echoing the intensity and grandeur of Tuna Fishing while bringing his own nuanced touch to the composition.

Also available as a limited edition fine art print for collectors.

Salvador Dalí’s Tuna Fishing (Homage to Meissonier) (1966-1967) is a monumental masterpiece that showcases his signature surrealist vision, blending elements of classical painting with a chaotic, almost apocalyptic energy. The original painting is an explosion of colour and movement, depicting a dramatic battle between fishermen and massive, thrashing tuna. Dalí’s masterful use of vibrant hues, fiery reds, electric blues, and shimmering golds, heightens the intensity of the scene, while his intricate brushwork and layered composition create a sense of swirling dynamism, fusing elements of surrealism, impressionism, and even Renaissance influences.

Dedicated to exploring and reinterpreting the dramatic and imaginative worlds of Baroque and Surrealist masters, Masterpiece Studies II | 2026 continues the journey begun in Part I. Inspired by the intense chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, the dynamic battle and portraiture of Jan Wyck, and the dreamlike surrealism of Salvador Dalí, Robson delves into a study of narrative, movement, and imagination on canvas. Through both faithful replication and inventive interpretation, he hones his mastery of composition, light, and form, bridging historical styles with contemporary sensibilities.

More than an exercise in technical skill, Masterpiece Studies II | 2026 is a dialogue across time, a conversation with artists who transformed visual storytelling. By revisiting these iconic works, Robson preserves their legacy while inviting modern audiences to experience the drama, imagination, and psychological depth of these masterpieces.

The collection’s original acrylic works on canvas offer collectors a rare opportunity to engage with this deeply personal exploration of artistic technique and expression, affirming the enduring power of these legendary styles to inspire, challenge, and captivate.
