Description

An original acrylic on canvas hand-signed artwork by Simon Lee Robson.

Tuna Fishing after Salvador Dalí, 1966-1967 (2022) pays homage to Dalí’s original with remarkable sensitivity to its colour palette and expressive style. In this study, Robson captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow, staying true to Dalí’s bold contrasts and electric energy. His brushstrokes mirror the fluidity and movement found in the original, while his careful attention to colour replicates the luminous, almost dreamlike quality of Dalí’s seascape. Though a study, Robson’s piece stands as a compelling interpretation, echoing the intensity and grandeur of Tuna Fishing while bringing his own nuanced touch to the composition.

Also available as a limited edition fine art print for collectors.

Salvador Dalí’s Tuna Fishing (Homage to Meissonier) (1966-1967) is a monumental masterpiece that showcases his signature surrealist vision, blending elements of classical painting with a chaotic, almost apocalyptic energy. The original painting is an explosion of colour and movement, depicting a dramatic battle between fishermen and massive, thrashing tuna. Dalí’s masterful use of vibrant hues, fiery reds, electric blues, and shimmering golds, heightens the intensity of the scene, while his intricate brushwork and layered composition create a sense of swirling dynamism, fusing elements of surrealism, impressionism, and even Renaissance influences.
