Description

An original mixed media wood panel hand-signed icon by Simon Lee Robson.

A rustic, handcrafted icon inspired by the original Virgin Galaktotrofousa icon (18th century, monk Makarios, head of the Galatsianoi icon painters, Byzantine).

Eikṓns Collected Works | 2025

All three parts of Eikṓns (I, II & III) converge in this definitive presentation, Simon Lee Robson’s Eikṓns Collected Works | 2025, which showcases a reverent collection of handcrafted Byzantine Greek and Russian Eastern Orthodox icons. These mixed-media originals honour the profound traditions of Orthodox Christian art while introducing a contemporary, artisanal sensibility.

With Eikṓns, Robson focuses on the sacred, producing icons that reflect the profound depth and timelessness of Orthodox tradition. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, beginning with a decoupage on reclaimed wood and layered with subtle washes of egg tempera, stainers, varnish, and water lacquer. Expertly distressed to evoke the gentle patina of aged sacred art, some icons are further enhanced by elegant gilt or natural wood frames, amplifying their devotional presence.

These icons can be displayed individually or curated together to create a contemplative sanctuary within the home. These singular originals offer collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a work of living tradition. A select group of early prototypes, previously held in Robson’s studio, are also available, offering an intimate glimpse into the evolution of the Eikṓns series, simpler, unfinished, yet profoundly expressive of the artist’s vision.

Eikṓns Collected Works | 2025 stands as a testament to the enduring power of Orthodox iconography, where devotion, craftsmanship, and contemporary artistry converge in an exceptional collection for discerning collectors.
